When I was pregnant with Freddie, I had already planned that I was going to get him christened. To begin with, I am not religious, but I think getting a child christened is a lovely thing to do to celebrate their life. My partner and I were christened when we were babies, so it felt right that all our kids were christened too. Mia was christened back in 2011, Elliw was christened in 2013 as she celebrated her 1st birthday too and I decided to christen Freddie today (5th February 2017).
5th of February seemed like the perfect day to get him christened as it is also my Great Nain's birthday. She would have been 102 years old, but she sadly passed away just nearly two weeks after Elliw was born. She never got to meet Elliw, which was a shame. We had planned to take her Mother's Day Sunday, but she passed a few days before. Something I regret massively - I should have taken Elliw to see her sooner. She would have loved all her great-great grandchildren so much, just like she loved seeing Mia. The 5th just seemed like the perfect time to celebrate Freddie and to remember my Nain.
Before we left the house for the christening service, I decided to take our own family photos. Freddie's service was at 2.30pm, and we had a photographer present too, and she captured some lovely photos of everyone. We said a few prayers and then Freddie got christened. He loved it when the water went on his head. It was such a lovely, comfortable and calm service. We had quite a fair bit of friends and family who had attended to which we both appreciated.
After the service, we went to the after do to a Golf Club in a town near us. It was set up lovely. I had hoped for it to be more open, but I guess that was my fault for not actually visiting there before we booked but the food was absolutely delicious, and everyone had a lovely time. Freddie was given a lot of gifts, and I will soon be doing a video of all the gifts he received on his day. We managed to capture some great photos throughout the whole day. I had planned to video the day, but it didn't go to plan which I am gutted about.
It was so nice getting all the family and friends together to celebrate Freddie.

This is such a beautiful way of honoring your Great nanna. You and your family look absolutely gorgeous, you've made me remember my kids baptism. They were 1 year (son) and 4 months (daughter) old and on top of it, me and my husband had a wedding too:). So it's quite an anniversary that day;)) #KCACOLS
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had such a beautiful day. In my experience people don't tend to have christenings any more which is such a shame. I always think it is such a special way to celebrate a life - and what a great day to choose too. #KCACOLS & #MMBC

ReplyDeleteAww! Gorgeous photos! It looks like you had a fab day x
ReplyDeleteThat really is a great way to honour your Nanna. I was debating getting my daughter christened but decided against it in the end... Not for religious reasons, bur just because she suffers from anxiety after having to spend the first week of her life in hospital due to the hospital giving her and my wife and infection during birth.
ReplyDeleteHi Beth, what lovely family photos you have of the day. If I were any where near Freddie his thighs would be in danger of getting covered in bite marks (is that just me?). How lovely that you chose to christen Freddie on your Nains birthday, I ma sure she would have been very proud.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking up t the #MMBC.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos, you all looked lovely too. Neither me or my sister have christened any of our children, I suppose it wasn't something we felt the need to do but it looks like you had a lovely day and it's so nice to be able to celebrate the children isn't it #kcacols
