7 years ago today I was preparing myself to be induced the following morning. I was a scared and nervous 17 year old pregnant girl. I was full of nerves, knowing I was giving birth to a baby girl and raising her on my own. I had no idea what to expect, I hadn't a clue what labour was going to be like or what kind of pain I was going to go through. All I knew was, I was going to have my baby girl at the end of it and the next time I was in my bed, I'd have my baby girl in the Moses basket next to me.
5th of December arrived. At 8am my Dad phoned the hospital to see if there was a space for induction. There was and we were told to be there by 9am. I got myself ready in the labour room and I was asked some questions by the midwife. They broke my waters and asked me to have a walk around for about 30-45 minutes, and so I did. My Dad was my labour partner, so he walked around with me. It wasn't that painful just a few twinges here and there, but I felt uncomfortable with my water breaking every now and then, which meant a few trips to the toilet. I returned to the labour room and put on a monitor. She asked me to go for a walk again but this time I only managed to reach half way down the corridor until I had to go back, as I was in too much pain.
Although I was in labour, the midwives weren't happy with the contractions. My blood pressure was a bit high and they wanted the contractions to be longer and stronger. They decided to put me on a drip, eventually, the contractions did get stronger and longer. I was strapped on the monitor and a drip, so I was stuck on the bed. I went through 10 hours 29 minutes of labour until I gave birth to my baby girl. My first born. The little girl who changed my whole life.
I am so proud of who she has become. She's such a polite and funny little girl. She does have an attitude of a teenager at times and cane be difficult but I wouldn't change her for the world. She has a fantastic personality. these 7 years have just flown by. To think in another 3 years, she will be 10 years old. It's mad how fast time flies, isn't it?
Happy 7th Birthday Mia.
